A Hero (勇者, Yuusha^?) is a title given to a young maiden with a widespread of divine abilities granted to them by the Yuusha System or Sakimori System. They are able to resonate with the Shinju and therefore are able to use the system. They are all generally in late elementary to middle school. All the heroes are guided by a Miko with the exception of Akihara Sekka and Kohagura Natsume. The Heroes, along with the Sentinels, are the only beings able to oppose the Vertex openly with the Shinju's spiritual energy.

A Hero is a young girl that is chosen to fight for the gods that side with humanity. Despite each hero never appearing the same, they always had a standard set of abilities and attributes:

A signature weapon
A flower representation
Superhuman abilities

A Hero generally awoke from either a Miko's urging or a subconscious effort. The original Heroes were each guided to a Divine Weapon to use against the enemy, and from this point onward divine power would flow through them to give them the strength to wield such a weapon. A less physical system was put to use by the Taisha via a phone application. Presumingly, this format was chosen to better suit the girls of modern day.

Despite their immense power, a Hero was still mortal, and under extreme circumstances could be heavily injured and/or killed.

In the year 298 DE, Divine Weaponry was no longer needed, and Heroes could summon power directly through themselves. However, they were still mortal, and suffered losses. To make up for this, the Mankai upgrade was implemented into the system, allowing both the Heroes of the years 298 and 300 to utilize it in combat. In return, they would give up a piece of their body.

In the year 300 DE, the more times a Hero would go through Mankai, the more power she would receive, and could unlock a variety of weapons to use.

In the year 300-301 DE, the Sakimori system was created, and with it the chosen Sentinels. Only former Hero candidates could use this. Mankai, immortality fields, and weapon upgrades unable to be accessed. In turn, they had greater bodily defense and the power could be easily mass-produced.

In the year 301 DE, the current system was created, allowing a hero to use Mankai once and only allowing a certain number of immortality fields to be used. So far, only one weapon could be accessed.

History

The first heroes awoke sometime after the Vertex invasion began. The exact number is unknown, but at least eight girls have been recorded using Hero abilities to fight Vertex. Shikoku held the largest number of heroes.

After the Leo Vertex self-destructed, everyone outside of Shikoku was killed in the blast. This left only five Heroes to defend the Shinju directly, and even then, there was only one that could still fight. A ceasefire was communicated with the heavenly gods, who accepted.

In the year 298 DE, three girls were chosen to protect the Shinju once more. After their eventual "disbandment", over 40 candidates were discovered by the Taisha, and 33 were given the option to compete for the terminal of Minowa Gin. Those who did not complete their training were later made into Sentinels.

Four of the candidates were made into full-fledged Heroes, later joined by the winner of Gin's terminal, and they would protect Shikoku. The last remaining member of the Year 298 Hero Team would also join them, making six heroes.

Due to their work, the Sentinels would be allowed to uphold the title of "Hero", even if their abilities did not directly match up.

After the events of Hero Chapter, the powers given to the Heroes and Sentinels were taken away, as there was no more use for them at the time.
