Hanamoto Yoshika (花本 美佳 Hanamoto Yoshika?) was a Miko of the Kochi region, appearing in Uesato Hinata is a Miko.
Background[]
Yoshika is from Kochi Prefecture. When she was younger, she almost drowned after swimming out to sea, giving her aquaphobia.
After having awakened to the ability to receive oracles, she is Koori Chikage's Miko, one of the original Heroes.
For most of her life, her name was always mispronounced due to having similar writing as "Mika". When she met Chikage, however, she correctly stated her name as Yoshika, and she has held her in high regard ever since.
Appearance[]
Yoshika is a girl with long braids ending in loops, and a larger looped bun on the back of her head. Her hair is tied with red scrunchies. She wears a green and white pleated school uniform and glasses.
Personality[]
Yoshika is rather soft-spoken compared to her fellow mikos, but is not afraid to speak her mind. This is especially true concerning matters regarding the Taisha. Being from a family that practiced different worship practices than the Taisha, she often gets in trouble for her religious habits and beliefs.
Her aquaphobia renders her unable to take purification showers under the waterfalls like the rest of the Mikos. Eventually, she forces herself to overcome her fear by wading through a flooded street to reach Chikage's home.
Abilities[]
Yoshika has the standard abilities of a miko, able to receive oracles from the Shinju and guide Heroes along their quest.
Her connections through her father's shrine allow her to remain informed on current events in Chikage's hometown. Her intricate network of informants impressed even the stoic Karasuma Kumiko.
Plot[]
Yoshika is introduced as purifying herself in a bathhouse, due to her aquaphobia. She, Masuzu, and Uesato Hinata later have a game night together in her shared room. Yoshika later talks with Aki Masuzu after the death of Anzu and Tamako, successfully urging her to move forward.
Yoshika discovered Chikage was to be sent back to her hometown soon. Knowing this would not fare well for her, Yoshika argued with the Taisha priests about their choices for Chikage. She was put in solitary confinement as punishment for speaking out against them. Yoshika was well-tended to however, stating the only real consequence was that she had no television.
Karasuma Kumiko then arrives, and tells Yoshika the details of Chikage's recent events and her fall in battle. She decides to find Chikage's family and attend her home funeral, forcing herself to wade through a flooded street to make it there. Upon finding that her father had no intention of a proper burial for his daughter, she takes Chikage's body and, with the help of Kumiko, brings and puts her to rest at her family shrine, leaving the Taisha organization.
However, at the request of Uesato Hinata, Yoshika agreed to help her take over the Taisha organization and returned as a Miko. She accepts, with two stipulations: that Chikage's grave at the Hanamoto shrine is never to be disturbed, and that Hinata must create a "proof of Chikage's existence". She, along with the other Mikos, came as witnesses to Hinata's "Oracle". Because of this, she would not be erased from their records like Chikage was, and was remembered as a sacred martyr up to 301 D.E. Her grave resides in the Monument to the Fallen Legends.
Relationships[]
Aki Masuzu[]
Masuzu views herself as Yoshika's "senpai", due to being a year older than her. Yoshika sometimes finds Masuzu annoying, but deep down she cares for her and values her friendship.
Uesato Hinata[]
Initially, Yoshika was envious of Hinata due to the Taisha choosing Hinata to be the Heroes' overseer over her. She had hoped to become the Heroes' overseer to get closer to Chikage, so she felt resentment towards Hinata for taking that opportunity away from her. However, as time went by and she witnessed Hinata's excellent peacemaking abilities, she realized that Hinata was the right Miko for overseeing the Heroes after all.
Koori Chikage[]
Yoshika revered Chikage, admitting she was completely taken by her upon meeting her at the abandoned shrine in 2015. From then on, she committed herself to seeing Chikage again; however, for the next three years she could not muster up the courage to visit her. Instead, she would bombard Hinata with questions about Chikage, such as how she was doing and what video games she was playing. She strived to learn as much about Chikage as possible so that it would be easy to have a conversation with her once they met again. She also had contacts through her father's shrine and her elementary school who update her on current events in Chikage's hometown.
Yoshika relentlessly advocated for Chikage when her mental health began to decline, growing more and more frustrated with the Taisha for repeatedly failing to give her the treatment she needed. Upon learning of Chikage's death and lack of funeral arrangements, Yoshika traveled alone to Kouchi Prefecture to retrieve her body. There was a terrible rainstorm, and when she came across a flooded street on the way to the Koori home, she overcame her aquaphobia and traversed through the floodwater to reach her.
At first, Yoshika claimed that she was not in love with Chikage, but rather she greatly respected her; however, after Chikage's death, she realized the true nature of her feelings.
Karasuma Kumiko[]
Karasuma is Yoshika's teacher at the Taisha headquarters. Karasuma visits Yoshika while she is in solitary confinement in an attempt to glean information from her. Later, she receives Karasuma's help with taking Chikage's body to the Hanamoto family's shrine.

Trivia[]
- According to lead writer Akashiro Aoi, Yoshika was initially going to appear in Nogi Wakaba is a Hero as Uesato Hinata's friend in the Taisha, much like Aki Masuzu, but her appearances were cut as the writers felt it was "too far off from the main theme".
- When designing Yoshika, Akashiro first created a character profile, then let BUNBUN, the character designer, draw her based on it. [1]
